Includes a study trip to Edinburgh.

Learning Outcomes

  1. To discover the city of Edinburgh and the country of Scotland
  2. To grasp how the developments in Scotland relate to issues of nationalism and independence
  3. To grasp key figures and ideas of the Enlightenment and how these manifest themselves in architecture and literature
  4. To understand something of the relation between an official language (English) and a demotic (Scots)
  5. To understand the nature of accelerated social and cultural development and how this can produce rifts and tensions
  6. To understand what in the culture and history of Scotland has produced some of the greatest “doubles” narratives
